Freaky BSJ

Questa mattina, durante la pausa caffè sono scesa nell'elegantissimo negozio sotto l'ufficio per chiedere di poter fare questi scatti. La proprietaria è stata molto gentile, e qualunque cosa abbia pensato di me, mi ha accontentata. L'atmosfera è tres chic, e il mio BSJ è un pò chiassoso in mezzo a queste tinte pastellose e sfumate...ma a me piace per questo!

Ora che è finito, non essendoci bebè in arrivo nel mio cerchio di amicizie, mi verrebbe voglia di proporlo per l'Operazione Sorriso di cui vi ho informato tempo fa.

Non sarà un quadrato, ma è un vero BSJ! Spero che porti fortuna e un sorriso sia a chi lo riceverà in dono, che ai bambini aiutati dall'associazione Ridere per Vivere!

This morning, during my coffee break, I went downstairs into the babywear shop we have just below our office, and I asked permission to take these shots. The shop owner was very kind, and whatever she might think about me, she said yes to please me. The atmosphere is tres chic, and my BSJ looks a bit gaudy among these pastel and soft shades ... but I like it just for this!

Now it's done, I don't have newborns arriving among my friends, I feel tempted to offer this jacket for that charity "Operazione Sorriso" I told you about some time ago.

Although it's not a square, it's a true BSJ! I hope it can bring good luck and a smile both to the baby who will receive the gift, and to all the children who will be helped by tha association Ridere per Vivere!

WOW che sorpresa!

Mi sto divertendo molto, credo che il maglioncino starebbe bene ad un neonato...però ho tralasciato l'esecuzione delle asole e dello scollo, pensando che restasse un esercizio tecnico.
Devo cercare un rimedio!
I'm having a lot of fun, and I believe this sweater could fit a newborn...but I left buttonholes and neck shaping out, because I imagined it would be a mere technical exercise.
I have to fix these points!

BSJ step by step

Grazie a Lorenzamagnifica, per aver trovato un bel sito con una pagina fantastica dedicata alla BSJ che viene definita come un pezzo di "ingegneria ai ferri" (knitted engineering). Ho notato immediatamente di aver iniziato il mio lavoro nel verso opposto a quello previsto da EZ. Il risultato finale sarà lo stesso, però credo che la direzione suggerita dalla Zimmermann sia "ovviamente" più conveniente perchè si arriva al bordo della giacchetta alla fine, e quindi basta riprendere i punti lungo i due pezzi del davanti. Io, partendo al contrario, ho fatto il bordo, ma poi ho dovuto collegare a questo il dietro man mano che il lavoro proseguiva fino all'angolo in cui si inizia a sagomare il davanti. Niente di sbagliato, però è un pò più difficile...come ingegnera della maglia ho mancato un pò nella fase di ottimizzazione, ma tutto è perfettibile! Buon divertimento a chi ci sta provando insieme a me!

Thank you Lorenzamagnifica, because you have found out an interesting site with a wonderful page about BSJ, that is referred to as e piece of knitted engineering. I immediately noticed I cast on in the opposite direction compared to the one fixed by EZ. The final result will be the same, but I think the direction proposed by Zimmermann is "obviously" the most favourable, because you reach the button band at the end of your work, when you simply have to pick up the stitches along front pieces. On the contrary, I started with the front band and then I had to join it to the back piece as work was rising up until I reached the edge-point in which you start shaping front. This isn't wrong in itself, but it's more difficult...as a knitter-engineer I was lacking in the optimization phase, but everything is perfectible!

La sfida di EZ - EZ's challenge

Ho visto il maglioncino "BSJ - Baby Surprise Jacket" di Elizabeth Zimmermann, eseguito in modo impeccabile e con un filato stupendo da Brooklyntweed, e per la prima volta osservando le foto che riprendono sia il davanti che il dietro, credo di aver capito qual è il segreto del modello!
Non ho potuto fare a meno di provarci anch'io, pur non avendo il libro con le istruzioni...mi sono costruita un modellino di carta ed ho raccolto la sfida di Elizabeth Zimmermann... questa donna non smette mai di stupirmi! Spero di essere sulla buona strada!

I saw Elizabeth Zimmermann's "BSJ- Baby Surprise Jacket" perfectly knitted with a fabulous yarn by Brooklyntweed and, for the first time, just looking at the photos that showed front and back, I think I got the secret of this pattern! I couldn't avoid to give it a try too, although I haven't got the book with the instructions...I made a paper swatch and I accepted EZ's challenge...this woman is amazing as always! I hope I'm following the right path!
