I joined Alanna for a Virtual Cappuccino, and we had a long chat. She made me feel comfortable, and slowed down her speech to make things easier for my italian ears.

We talked about the "Family Eat Together Night" event, but above all I told her everything about Madamaknit and Palazzo Madama. Join us into the bar!

Eccola la lunga chiacchierata con Alanna che mi ha tenuta sulle spine per due sere, alla fine è andata! Ho provato a raccontare l'esperienza di Madamaknit ed esprimere l'entusiasmo suscitato del progetto. Entrate anche voi nel bar e prendete un Cappuccino virtuale insieme a noi!

Ho letto per la prima volta questa parola sul blog di Gabriella, che mi ha spiegato che Nostepinde deriva dallo scandinavo
noste=nest=nido + pinde=stick=stecco
ed indica quest'oggetto misterioso che sembrerebbe produrre (se usato da mani esperte) nidi di lana....andate qui o meglio qui se volete provarci anche voi!

I found this word for the first time on Gabriella's blog and she told me Nostepinde is a Scandinavian name for this mysterious tool that, if used by crafty hands, should produce "wool nests".... here or even better here if you wanna try it!

Maglista = Knitter

E' da molto tempo che rimugino sul termine della lingua italiana più adatto per indicare chi si "diletta" nel fare la maglia ....
I've been brooding a lot of time, searching the most suitable word in Italian to define a person who knits just for pleasure...
Ho trovato queste definizioni, I found these definitions:

dal dizionario De Mauro : magliaio/a = operaio di un maglificio, commerciante in maglia, qualcuno che ne ricava comunque un guadagno - knitwear factory worker, trader, someone who works and earns a salary.

il dizionario Garzanti non ha nemmeno la voce maschile, esiste solo la magliaia! Comunque la definizione è simile ed è legata allo svolgimento di un lavoro. - Garzanti dictionary reports only the feminine noun, a man do not knit! Definition is similar and related to the execution of a work.

In verità ho riscontrato sul blog MAM l'uso del termine maglista che in tutti i dizionari viene riferito all'operaio (maschio!) addetto alla fucinatura e stampaggio, e che usa il maglio.
Actually I noticed the use of the word "maglista" by the bloggers of "MAM", but in all the dictionaries this is referred to the man (!) who works with the "maglio", the hammerman.

Se tuttavia si analizza a fondo la parola maglista, formata dal vocabolo maglia, e dal suffisso "-ista" usato perfino in termini come roman-ista, milan-ista, per definire un tifoso della squadra della Roma o del Milan, la si può intendere anche nel senso di "appassionata di maglia"!
However if you split the word "maglista" you'll find out it's made by the word maglia and the suffix "-ista", that is commonly used in terms like roman-ista, milan-ista, who refer to a Roma or Milan football supporter. So this word can be correctly translated as a person very fond of knitting!

Avevo una preferenza iniziale per il termine magliaia, più legato alla tradizione, ma ora credo che maglista sia le parola che mi definisce esattamente!...e poi non ha un genere definito a priori!
I used to prefer the term "magliaia", because is more traditional, but now I believe the word "maglista" really defines me!...moreover it's genderless!
