Autodeterminazione

Non riesco ad abituarmici, ogni volta mi meraviglio e mi soffermo incantata ad analizzarli. Mi sembra di conoscerli, sono esseri strani, immobili, quasi eterni. Ognuno di loro, come un’espressione d’arte viva, unica ed irripetibile, mi trasmette emozioni, mi parla. Gli giro intorno, li osservo da un’altra angolazione e li scopro ancora diversi. Hanno una personalità propria, non c’è altra spiegazione! Mi raccontano di tutte le stagioni passate, di quanto sole e quanto vento li abbiano plasmati, piegati, spezzati e mi dicono che nonostante tutto sono diventati proprio quello che desideravano essere!

I still can’t get used to it, every time I can’t keep myself from staring at them and feeling enchanted. I feel as if I knew them. They are a weird kind of living-beings, motionless and almost eternal.
Each of them, like a kind of unique unrepeateable expression of art, touches my soul and talks to me. I circle around and from each point of view I find them different. They have their own personality for sure, and there’s no other explanation than this! They tell me about the seasons they have seen, how much sun and wind have moulded, bent, and broken them, and they assure me that in spite of all this they are now what they did choose to be!

E la sciarpa? Anche lei nel suo piccolo si è autoderminata ad essere secondo i suoi desideri ed i suoi colori. Neanche a dirlo mi ha chiesto di restare in Puglia e così l’ho affidata alla mia amica Ginetta.
Il modello è il mio Maple leaf shrug senza foglie (data la stagione sono cadute!) Il filato dai colori brillanti è Wollmeise Pfauenauge.

What about the scarf? It’s a little example of self-determination of its own because it came out following its desires and colors. I don’t need to tell you that it asked me to stay in Puglia forever, so I thought of my dear friend Ginetta to look after it!
The pattern is my own Maple leaf shrug without leaves (all fallen by now!)
The brightly colored yarn is Wollmeise Pfauenauge.

I won! I entered the Renaissance Dyeing knitting competition and I was the winner of the not-lace section!

The whole thing lasted several months, since last May. When it took me to choose among the variety of colours and shades offered by Renaissance Dyeing I was so puzzled and I couldn’t make up my mind for days. I wished I was a painter and my needles were paintbrushes so that I could do my best with such palette! Finally I chose a colour, lilac, in two different tones, dark and light, I added a strong contrast with light gold, and this I what I got! This project is something new and funny to knit and it reminds me of Florentine marbled paper.

Maybe this is a scarf and not a shrug .... but I love the famous ragtime by Scott Joplin ... and it sounded so much better!

Ho partecipato alla "gara di maglia" indetta dalla ditta che produce lane tinte con colori vegetali Renaissance Dyeing ed ho vinto nella categoria dedicata a ciò che non è pizzo (ovvero not-lace)!
La cosa è andata avanti per diversi mesi, a partire da maggio. Inizialmente è stato complesso anche decidere quali colori scegliere per il mio progetto, data l'enorme varietà offerta.
L'imbarazzo è durato per giorni, perchè davvero mi sarebbe piaciuto usare ferri e lane alla stregua di un pittore con una tavolozza di bei colori. Alla fine ho scelto il violetto in due tonalità, chiaro e scuro, ho aggiunto un contrasto deciso con il color oro, ed ecco quello che ne è venuto!
Questa sciarpa è originale e divertente da lavorare e mi ricorda la carta marmorizzata fiorentina.
Forse è una sciarpa e non un coprispalle (shrug) .... ma ricordavo il famoso ragtime di Scott Joplin "Maple leaf rag" il ragtime della foglia d'acero... e suonava così bene!
