Il sentiero perduto

lost road

A me succede spesso, e questo è l'ultimo schema agognato.

Do you ever lose yourself in internet, searching for an impossible pattern? I do, of course and this is my latest coveted scheme.

In my research I found this beautiful post with a touching story about this crochet whirling pattern resembling “a lost road”. It was as if I had stumbled by chance upon something hidden and rare and my interest grew consequently.

I didn't get the book but I managed to draw out the pattern from the pictures. It was a challenge and I had to follow the lost road, no matter what it takes.

So here I am with my sampler, a coin purse that looks like a weird snail... travelling along the lost and whirling secret path.

Carolyn e Noemi

2013-11-02_18.15.21_medium2

Writing a blog can give you a variety of emotions. And just when I think I got used to this, then I discover something unexpected and tender!
Two daughters, Carolyn and Noemi. Same age and games, but an ocean to separate them. Both fond of reading but in a different language. Another thing in common, their moms do knit ... and post pictures on the internet.
For me it’s a great little joy to place these photos side by side, thinking how wonderful is to weave the threads of wool and threads of our lives. So similar and so far.

Ho attaccato bottone

Succede.

bottoni_foglie

Things happen by chance. I met Noël because she appreciated my pattern 100 grammi so much that she offered to share with me some of her gorgeous handmade porcelain buttons. I tried to resist because I was ashamed and I said I didn’t deserve such gift… but I actually was drooling over my monitor, so in the end I surrended!

I hope you’ll understand and forgive my weakness! In Italy when you start talking with a person you meet by chance we use to say "you're sewing a button" (attaccar bottone), and this is just what we’re doing!

Now the matter is the choice of the right pattern and yarn to match such beautiful details. Every suggestion is welcome!

No need to be jealous however, you can have your own precious buttons, take a look at Noël’s shop on Etsy!

Thanks again, my dear friend! I wish you all the best...and... let's keep on sewing buttons!

E..vvi...WA

Ewa did it too! I really didn't have the chance to explain her the pattern but she looked at the picture in my post Avara ... and she made it! She is too crafty, witty, quick .. she rocks!
So there's no doubt about it, there will be two Esmeralda attending next Stitch'n'Bitch!

PS: Ursula, Francesca, Angela, grazie!
PPS: un saluto speciale a Graziella!

Add to your navigation system a fundamental POI = point of interest. Let yourself be guided to a nice little house surrounded by green, ring the bell, walk through the porch and feel like Hansel and Gretel in the house of marzipan! Look at this, just a little bite, this feels so smooth, how many colors .... just like in the fairy tale!

Fear not, however, Lulù the lady of the house and Veruska are genuine fairies! Today we wallowed in a sea of colors and softness, and it has been difficult to choose among so many wonders ... but we have no doubt, we'll come back soon!

PS: Ursula, Francesca, Angela, thank you!

PPS: special thanks to Graziella!

If I only had a fireplace I would put up on it this Christmas postcard thought, written, stamped, and sent to me by Maliarda! I'm showing it off here for you!

Maple leaf rag ... ooops Shrug!

I won! I entered the Renaissance Dyeing knitting competition and I was the winner of the not-lace section!

The whole thing lasted several months, since last May. When it took me to choose among the variety of colours and shades offered by Renaissance Dyeing I was so puzzled and I couldn’t make up my mind for days. I wished I was a painter and my needles were paintbrushes so that I could do my best with such palette! Finally I chose a colour, lilac, in two different tones, dark and light, I added a strong contrast with light gold, and this I what I got! This project is something new and funny to knit and it reminds me of Florentine marbled paper.

Maybe this is a scarf and not a shrug .... but I love the famous ragtime by Scott Joplin ... and it sounded so much better!
Here you can have a look at the wonderful palette offered by this dyeing house, and here the kits of the winning patterns !

ANCORA GRAZIE!

When will it happen to meet again another Sabine? that's the reason why I didn't sign up again for a game like Secret Pal! (while I was linking the site I realised the new round "SP12" is starting now) . I've been spoiled again for my birthday! On my way back home I found an unmistakable "german yellow" parcel, and before I read the sender name I knew...who else but she?

Many little surprises, some sparkling candies and these books are the right ones for me! By now I totally find myself in the acts and thoughts of that "irrecoverable knitter" described by the Yarn Harlot 's book, but I believe I'm in a good company... and Sabine is with me!(^_^) Finally, the indigo cotton hanks could turn into a wonderful Clapotis, but I think I'll knit a tee for me, I'll make one of those "favourite garments", the ones you wear-wash-dry-wear-wash...etc. I’m really tempted to cast on at once!!! THANK YOU!

Benvenuta e auguri, vedremo bei lavori e foto magnifiche!

Asuka sent me two more pics taken last saturday .... and starts today her Azzuknits!
Welcome and good luck, we'll see beautiful knits and wonderful pictures!

Ricchezza

Nowadays it couldn't happen any longer, 40 years ago in a small southern town to name a newborn girl Cristiana made people laugh! They tell me someone said "will they name Democrazia their next girl?" (Democrazia Cristiana then was the main political party).
My parents tried to avoid this risk devoting themselves to a series of other three boys!
This morning I cried a little because I miss my dad's unmistakable and deeply touched voice wishing me happy birthday...will anyone ever invent some kind of stellar cell phone?
We decided to go out without a destination, or even the urge to do anything, until we arrived almost by chance at Lingotto... there, all of them did know it, and they were ready with flowers and gifts, and heart-made knits .... what about me then? I simply blew out the candles like a child!

If you're rich you don't wonder if it's fair or not, today I am rich, and that's enough.
Thanks to all my friends, those who were there and those who would have been with us, thanks!
(As for their secret ally, he will get what he deserves!)

Surprise!

This is a great surprise for me! Michelle from Oregon knitted her Fallrainbow and I asked her to send me some pictures to show it.
She looks so pleased to wear it, and I am so proud she followed my pattern. I know other people are working on this pattern but this ist the very first FO.
Congratulations Michelle, you made my day!

E ora? A cosa giochiamo?
E' fantastica!

SP11 is over, my final parcel isn’t arrived at destination yet ….. routes to the new world are still perilous!
Anyway yesterday I received my last surprise! It was a moment of light-heartedness and fun. We opened the parcel and found a jumping rope, a knitted knitting sheep, music, sweet Advent calendars, doll shaped bookmarks … badges&gadgets with H.Potter character … and what for meee? This comfortable and warm stole, a knitting magazine, and a lot of hanks … I know well what they are for!
And now? What will we play now? First of all a break to relax, then we’ll look for new spurs along upcoming year. This swap was long enough, three months, and if you are lucky and you find a communicative, open and kind person, just like
 Sabine, it’s a really unique experience!
The swap of goodies is a great fun, but besides this I found it wonderful to rely on fate, to throw a message by loosening a long thread of yarn waiting for what will come!
Maybe we could re-wind this ball during next summer holidays!
PS: Sabine told me that the pattern for this machine-knitted stole is "Persian Tiles" by  Jade Starmore! It's  fantastic!

SP11 - II

Nochmals vielen dank Sabine!

Perhaps you're wondering who's having more fun with SP11...it isn't easy to tell! Samberst was really blown away with those Harry Potters stickers and bookmarks she found in parcel n°2, sent by our no more secret pal Sabine....luckily photos don't show me as I was astonished while I was turning over the pages of The best of Interweave Knits, a collection of patterns, instructions and techical notes about Fair Isle, lace, cables, short rows (don't know the word in italian)...
More than this some booklets with recipes and patterns in German, just to learn something while cooking or knitting and listening to a background music from "Liederbuch"! I have got no excuses now......aber ich muss Deutsch sprechen! (where is the umlaut on the italian keyboard?)
Nochmals vielen dank Sabine!

-un quaderno per i miei appunti di maglia;
-un sapone profumato ed un flacone di essenza alla lavanda per il mio benessere e relax;
-un’agenda 2008 della Freie Universitat di Berlino piccola e portatile come piace a me;
-ferri circolari per il pizzo Addi (rossi e oro sciccosissimi!);
-un CD con una raccolta di brani musicali irresistibili da tutto il mondo “Putamayo World Party” (per l’Italia Roy Paci in Ciuri-Ciuri (^_^), mi sa che dà un bel ritmo al lavoro a maglia (e anche alle noiosissime pulizie!);
-marcapunti “rossi” e leggerissimi;
-caramelle morbide gusto “zitrone, kirsch, apfelsine, himbeer” e “schokolade aus Amazonas-Edel-Kakao” ;-P

Party is here! This evening we delayed dinner because on my return home we (me with the girls) did upack our no more secret pal Sabine’s parcel!
I didn’t have much time to tell you about these weeks we exchanged e-mails between Turin and Berlin...in fact I was willing to keep the pleasure of meeting her, find out our affinities, compare our lifestyle and our way to deal with similar experiences and tasks, for myself only.
I didn’t expect to find out so much to share besides knitting, I was impressed by her careful and understanding attitude, and I’m glad I found her so accessible and open for a sincere and tender dialog.
After a while, thanks to a treacherous account that showed me her name and since I found her original patterns on Magknits, game lost the Secret” but the “Pal” became stronger! Liebe Sabine, in Turin we celebrate and laugh!
I don’t how where to begin to tell you about the beautiful parcel filled with many other little packets and surprises... each in a different paper and with a special comment:
-a notebook for my knitting notes;
-a perfumed soap and a small bottle of lavender essence for my well-being and relax;
-a pocket 2008 diary from Freie Universitat in Berlin, just my favourite size;
-Addi circular needles for lace knitting (red-gold very cool!);
-a CD collection of irresistible musical pieces from all over the worl “Putamayo World Party” (Italy represented by Roy Paci’s Ciuri-Ciuri (^_^), I think it speeds up both knitting and so boring housework!);
-“red” and feather light stitch markers;
-soft candies flavoured “zitrone, kirsch, apfelsine, himbeer” and “schokolade aus Amazonas-Edel-Kakao” ;-P
-removable jeans-tattoos for my scamps...
-instructions (Anleitung) for a knitted poncho(Gestrickter Poncho) to practice German, and listen-please instruction for soooocks (soooocken) scheduled to fit all feets in the world!

That’s all, you’d say! Never! Now comes the better part ... there's a pattern (in english for my own sake) made by Sabine herself to knit a fluffy scarf, and ...two “cakes” of merino yarn I’ll use to knit it with my brand new Addi needles.
It’s very late but I’m tempted to cast on now-in this minute-at once...but I still have to translate this post in english!

Sorprese!

Sorprese!
Ora sono linkata a MAM! Grazie!

Here another example of my favourite knitting style, it's surprisingly easier, much more easier than you can tell! It seems a perfect holiday bag to me. I'll choose a fresh colored cotton to knit it, and I won't care if it isn't big enough to carry my world! Pattern is for free download from Berroco site. It's a pity there's no scheme to follow, but only plain description of the stitch sequence. I made a scheme of my own but don't know what type of file I should use to post it here, I'll try something!

Surprise!

Thanks to Elizabeth, I am reading her from a long time, she made me a great surprise! It's still amazing to me how easily you can get in touch with other people who live so far from you but so near for passions and lifestyle! I am a shy new blogger, but happy to meet you Elizabeth!
